How I Remember to Drink More Water

I'm not a perfect adult, I'll admit that. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I need to drink water. It can feel like drinking "x" amount of water every day is a chore. But water is important to help us maintain a healthy lifestyle. The amount of water you need to drink may vary from the standard "drink 8 cups of water per day." Check out these tips I use to help me drink more water!
Use a cute water bottle
Having a source to get water is always important. Not only are water bottles convenient, but they can also show you visually how much water you've been drinking throughout the day. Sometimes, even having something simple like a straw makes it easier for people to drink more water. If you're going to be drinking out of a water bottle, you might as well purchase one you like! I love this water bottle from Citrus Fusion*. It makes it easy to infuse fruits and herbs into my drinking water. Plus, the water bottle is super cute!

When drinking water, drink in 15-sip intervals
I saw this in a Buzzfeed article, which sadly I can't find now, but it said that when you drink water you should take 15 small sips while you do it. This has helped me drink more water because each time I go to drink it and take 15 sips, it forces me to go through the water faster and keep refilling my water bottle. It's also better for hydration because you're not gulping water in one take and you're allowing your body to absorb all the benefits of each sip of water.
Experiment to find your preferences
As you're developing your habit of drinking water, find out what your preferences are. Do you need ice while you drink water? Do you prefer to drink it through a straw? Do you want to drink water with a little bit of flavor? Once you find out what you like, or don't like, it will be easier for you to remember to drink water if it tastes how you want it to taste.
Don't drink plain water
Just because you need to drink water doesn't mean it has to be just water. Mix up your water intake with other flavors! I've used Mio in the past to add a few drops of flavor to water. There are also recipes that utilize herbs, fruits, etc. to enhance the flavor of water naturally. Lately, I've been adding a slice of lemon to my water. You could also mix up the type of water you drink like switching it with sparkling/seltzer water (I prefer Bubly, but LaCroix seems to be the most popular brand for sparkling water).
Try eating foods that contain water
Did you know that some foods contain water naturally? Sneaking in food that has high-water content can help you consume more water! Some foods to add to up your water intake include:
Apples
Grapefruit
Watermelon
Oranges
Strawberries
Lemons
Celery
Cucumbers
Zucchini
Lettuce
Pineapple
Some of the foods listed above could also be infused to your drinking water too!
Track your progress
It can help to physically write down or see visually how much water you've consumed during the day. I have a bullet journal to help track the habits I want to improve. There are also apps like Plant Nanny that can track your water intake on your phone.
